The Berd HAWK30X wheel set represents a revolutionary advancement in wheel design from Berd, built to withstand the rigorous demands of downhill and enduro riding and racing. These wheels are not merely an incremental update to the HAWK30; they stand apart as a separate and superior product class.
The introduction of the exclusive PolyLightX spokes on the HAWK30X wheels marks a significant upgrade. These spokes are 50% thicker, offering 44% greater stiffness and more than twice the abrasion resistance of the standard PolyLight spokes, yet they maintain a lightweight profile at just 3.5 grams each.
Collaborating closely with We Are One Composites in Canada, Berd developed the HAWK30X rims that maintain the external geometry of the HAWK30 but feature a reinforced layup for exceptional impact strength.
With a 30mm internal width, these rims are ideal for 2.4" to 2.6" tires. The 18mm depth provides both radial compliance for smoother rides and high lateral stiffness for precise control. This, combined with the vibration-damping properties of Berd spokes and the rim's radial compliance, enhances speed on rough terrain, improves control and trail feedback, and reduces rider fatigue.
The rims also feature an extra-wide 3.75mm lip, effectively distributing the force of tire/rim impacts over a larger area to minimize damage during sharp impacts.
The HAWK30X wheelset is centered around the Berd Talon Hub, which includes hooked hub flanges tailored for Berd spokes and a dual-sprung ratchet freehub available in 36T or 54T configurations. Starting in June 2024, the HAWK30X wheels will also be available with superboost Talon hubs, further enhancing their versatility and performance.

Berd spokes are made from an advanced polymer called ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) that has 12 times the strength-to-weight ratio of steel and floats on water. Berd spokes have an improved fatigue life compared to steel and are impervious to the elements.
